Job Title: Senior Substation Design Engineer

Location: Remote (within 50 miles of a C;ient office), US 

Job Type: Project-Based, Full-Time

The Client is  a global engineering, consulting, and construction company, is seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of high voltage substation design work experience with a focus on physical design and protective relaying/control. They will also have experience with varying voltage classes including 120kV, 138kV, 230kV, and 345kV.

Responsibilities:

• Lead substation design projects, providing technical guidance and supervision to engineering staff
• Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projects
• Perform high voltage substation (34.5kV-500kV) design, including physical design, protective relaying/control, and continuous improvement
• Ensure compliance with the Client quality program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviews
• Support continuous improvement and change management efforts
• Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects
• Independently apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods
• Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
• Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings
• Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects
• Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area
• Manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
• Minimum of 8 years of high voltage substation design work experience
• Experience with open air and/or GIS substations and designing different types of bus configurations
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control of high voltage substation design projects
• Technical experience preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong ability to drive for results and prioritize tasks
• Experience with performing complex research and developing recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
• Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements
• Ability to delegate and supervise the work of younger engineers
• Conflict management skills
• Ability to work within a team and collaborate effectively
• Proficiency in Bluebeam software is a plus

This is a remote position, but if the candidate is not located within 50 miles of a the client office, they will not be able to convert to FTE. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. Please note that this is a project-based role and not temp to hire. Candidates must have experience with high voltage substation design, with a focus on physical design and protective relaying/control. High voltage for this project is 34.5kV and above. Candidates with experience in voltage classes including 120kV, 138kV, 230kV, and 345kV are preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance over a group and interfacing directly with clients.

Rate/Salary: $60/hr – $62/hr
