C++ Software Engineer Contract

C++ Software Engineer – Cheltenham – 12 months contract – DV ONLY – up to £750 per day

Roles and responsibilities:

• Candidate is able to be given a problem with loose outcome-based requirements, in uncertain situations, to perform analysis, derive technical requirements, produce designs, and implement solutions.
• Is able to effectively perform whole-lifecycle engineering functions, irrespective of delivery methodology in use, interpret complex information, and communicate effectively with the team and stakeholders.
• Is responsible for identifying constraints, risks, and issues associated with own work, and for raising these with appropriate team members and stakeholders.
• Is able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, where there may be gaps in knowledge that require independent analysis and up-skilling, providing leadership in areas of specialism.
• Plans their work in conjunction with team to provide continuous forecasting of timescales, with effective prioritisation, taking responsibility for delivery against multiple objectives.
• This would closely map to a tech GC9 competency profile.
• Skills and experience:
• Experience in software development using the C++ language (knowledge of C++ 17 standard preferred).
• Experience in development targeting Linux-based environments (RedHat, CentOS, Rocky).
• Familiarity of scripting languages for prototyping and automating tasks (Bash, Python)
• Experience of eliciting requirements and constraints from stakeholders (e.g. product owner, solution architect, dev lead) to decompose technical tasks.
• Experience in software build toolchains (GCC, CMake, Autotools).
• Experience in Continuous Integration (CI) process and tooling.
• Experience in Software Configuration Management (SCM) process and tooling (Bitbucket, Gitlab, branching strategies, Jira integration, etc.).
• Experience working with a mixture of OSS, COTS, GOTS, and in-house software libraries.
• Experience in performing/automating unit, component, and sub-system integration testing of own/o
