Job Description
The Associate, Growth Merchant Lead (aGML) for Emerging Markets is a field sales role responsible for acquiring new business by signing local and regional restaurants to the DoorDash platform, particularly in rural or emerging markets. This position requires substantial travel within the assigned territory, primarily for in-person sales to engage restaurant owners. The aGML will be expected to manage a transactional sales cycle with a focus on achieving high volumes of restaurant sign-ups, with commission incentives based on performance.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and sign new restaurants to DoorDash, particularly in rural and emerging markets.
- Travel to restaurants and engage owners directly to negotiate partnerships and revenue-share agreements.
- Develop and manage relationships with restaurant owners, helping them see the value of partnering with DoorDash.
Sales Cycle Management:
- Efficiently close deals within a short time frame (days) to drive growth and achieve sales targets.
- Coordinate with a Regional Sales Manager to strategize and ensure market expansion.
- Leverage sales tools such as marketing materials, gift cards, and business cards to assist in presentations and negotiations.
- Travel frequently within the designated territory to meet potential restaurant partners in person.
- Some overnight stays and longer travel days (6-7 hours driving or flights) are required. Travel and living expenses will be covered.
- Meet baseline expectations for the number of restaurant sign-ups, with commissions based on overachievement.
- Track sales performance and report progress on the number of new partnerships achieved.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in outside sales, particularly in-person sales, with a proven track record of signing new business.
- Experience working directly with small business owners, particularly in the food and beverage industry, is highly preferred.
- Outbound sales experience will not be suitable for this role.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with empathy and understanding when dealing with small business owners.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure new restaurant partnerships.
- Ability to work independently and manage a travel-heavy schedule while maintaining high performance.
- Strategic thinking, with an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively engaging with restaurant owners and stakeholders.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory, with at least 50% travel required.
- Must have a personal vehicle for travel to restaurant locations.
- Comfortable conducting a sales pitch of 15-20 minutes, followed by Q&A, as part of the interview process.
- Base Pay: Competitive, based on experience.
- Commission: Additional commission based on restaurant partnerships signed, with a cap of $1750 per month.
- Training Provided: CRM tools and other sales-related systems.
- Onboarding: Expect a 1-week training period to get familiar with processes, tools, and systems.
- Work Schedule: Flexible, with significant travel required within the territory.
- Expenses: Travel and living expenses for business-related travel will be fully covered.
